Zoom Davidson should be continuing with Super Aguri in 2008

Super Aguri looks set to field an unchanged race driver lineup in 2008.

Takuma Sato, a strong performer this year and central to the small Japanese Honda-powered team's establishment two years ago, was always a certainty to retain his cockpit.

But the fate of his former works Honda colleague and 2007 team-mate Anthony Davidson was less well known, with it believed that - unlike some of the British rookie's rivals near the back of the F1 grid - he does not provide any significant sponsorship to the financially embattled team run by former Grand Prix driver Aguri Suzuki.

Super Aguri's managing director Daniele Audetto has however told an ITV documentary that Davidson, who is 28, is likely to retain his seat in 2008.

"Definitely, 100 per cent," the Italian responded when he was asked if Davidson will be on the grid next March.

"He's doing a fantastic job. I think Anthony is proving that he was a good choice: the speed is still there and the maturity is coming. So I expect that next year we are going to have two very good drivers," Audetto added.

Team owner Suzuki was less emphatic, insisting that he has "not decided anything for next year," but added that "personally, I like (Anthony)".

Sato scored all of the Leafield-based team's four points in 2007, but Davidson out-qualified his Japanese teammate on ten out of their seventeen Saturday contests.

Davidson says he is happy with his first full season on the grid this year, but expressed frustration that ability alone is sometimes not enough in F1.

"I think some of the driver choices that have happened in the past, and will continue to happen, have been shocking," he said.

"I mean, this is Formula One -- we're supposed to be the best guys in the world driving these cars, and clearly history would suggest that hasn't been the case," Davidson added.
