Zoom Kovalainen restricted to 64 laps today in Spain

After sitting out two days of running due to the unfavourable weather conditions, McLaren Mercedes today took part in the penultimate group test of the off-season today with Heikki Kovalainen and test driver Pedro de la Rosa in action.

The focus for the team was aerodynamic development tests of the new MP4-23. After a damp start, the Spanish Grand Prix circuit dried, allowing the duo to complete 156 laps between them.

Despite stopping on track, Kovalainen recorded the second fastest time of the day with a best lap of 1:22. 185s, while de la Rosa was just a fraction slower and third fastest.

The test team will resume the programme on Monday in Barcelona.
