12.30Welcome to F1-Live.com and our live coverage of the 70-lap Canadian Grand Prix.
12.32It is an all McLaren front row for the second straight race with Lewis Hamilton claiming his first Pole Position from Fernando Alonso. Hamilton lapped the 4.361KM circuit in 1:15.707s, just over four tenths faster than Alonso.
12.34Strategy may well play a key role again this weekend. Alonso made a small error on his fast lap losing four tenths, but it may well be that this weekend he is carrying more fuel than Hamilton in the crucial first stint.
12.36Tyres will influence the race, or certainly the lap times. The super soft tyre is good for qualifying but the performance drop off after a few laps is huge so most will opt to run the first two stint on the harder more consistent tyre and then use the soft for the final stint.
12.40Nick Heidfeld starts third for BMW Sauber. The team showed at Monaco that they are not afraid to play with fuel levels. This time around it seems that it is Heidfeld starting with less fuel than team-mate Kubica who starts eighth. Perhaps...
12.41Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa start fourth and fifth and both expressed some surprise at the pace of the McLaren team. Perhaps a little more fuel, but then again, McLaren have been faster in every practice session…
12.42Mark Webber starts in sixth position in his Red Bull Renault after a good run in qualifying. Along with Rosberg and Kubica there was nothing really in it in qualifying and this may well be one of the most entertaining battles in the field.
12.44Giancarlo Fisichella starts ninth in the leading Renault and will be targeting points while it is damage limitation time for Kovalainen who starts at the back following two offs and an engine failure. Kovalainen may well opt to start from the pit lane with changes to the R27.
12.46Jarno Trulli starts tenth in his Toyota after a good recovery yesterday following the Friday suspension dramas. Team-mate Ralf Schumacher starts 18th and is unlikely to be a factor.
12.48Albers' Spyker has been wheeled off the grid with some kind of problem on the Spyker. He was due to start 21st.
12.48Takuma Sato lines up 11th for Super Aguri Honda after a good run in qualifying, just ahead of Tonio Liuzzi in the Toro Rosso Ferrari. The Honda duo of Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button slipped back a little in qualifying and start 13th and 15th with Coulthard in between in the second RB3.
12.50Scott Speed starts 15th ahead of Davidson, Schumacher, Wurz, Sutil and Kovalainen. We’re not sure what’s happening with Albers right now as his car seems to have a problem.
12.52The races this year have so far been determined by qualifying and the start of the race. By its fast nature and the close proximity of the walls, a safety car is very likely in the 70 lap race. Today may be a bit different...
12.54Those running in the lower top ten positions are more likely to be carrying a heavy fuel load and while a one stop or even three stop is not out of the question. It is more likely that there will be a wide range of the two stop strategy however.
12.56It is sunny and warm and there is a big crowd on hand. The drivers are in the cars while the grid is packed with staff members.
12.58Albers will starting the race from the pit lane in his Spyker Ferrari while Kovalainen has opted to take his 22nd position on the grid in the Renault.
12.59The engines fire up and the grid is being cleared.
13.00The parade lap is underway as Hamilton leads Alonso off the dummy grid.
13.00They are all away from the dummy grid.
13.01The teams are telling the drivers to heat the brakes and try to keep as much tyre pressure as possible.
13.02Hamilton lines up on his Pole Position with the rest of the field taking up position behind.
Lap 1The Canadian Grand Prix is underway.
Lap 1Alosno runs wide at turn one and drops down. One Honda stalled.
Lap 1Hamilton leads Heidfeld as Button is pushed away.
Lap 1Alonso has dropped to third after out-braking himself it turn one.
Lap 2Rosberg jumped Raikkonen at the start and is in fifth position.
Lap 2It was a good start from Fisichella who jumped both Rosberg and Kubica and now runs seventh. Webber has droped to ninth.
Lap 3Button has retired from the race before it was even begun.
Lap 4Heidfeld leads Hamilton by 2 seconds.
Lap 4Webber has spun at turn one. He was ninth.
Lap 5Hamilton pulls another half second aead of Heidfeld while Alonso is now stuck behind Heidfeld after his turn one error.
Lap 6Folliwing his off at turn onbe trying to pass Kibica, Webber has dropped down to 14th behind Coulthard.
Lap 7Hamilton is extending his lead and it now almost four seconds as Heidfeld runs second frustrating Alonso who made that error at the start.
Lap 8Ralf Schumacher remains 19th in his Toyota ahead of Sutil and Albers.
Lap 9Webber is very quick as he has moved ahead of Coulthard and now ahead of Barrichello.
Lap 10Speed, 16th, has broken his front left suspension and is out of the race. He was tryng to pass Wurz and got it wrong.
Lap 11Hamilton is running away at the front at over a second a lap and the gap is almost 8 seconds. Job done pretty much for Hamilton if he can keep it under control and not make an error.
Lap 12Kimi Raikkonen runs off track and loses ground to Rosberg. The Ferrari challenge is non-existant right now.
Lap 13Liuzzi has brushed the wall but got away with it. Wurz seems to have a broken rear wing from Speed's assault but he is lapping okay.
Lap 14Kovalainen has worked his way up to 15th from the back of the pack and is now trying to close down Coulthard.
Lap 15Alonso runs off into the grass again into turn one and is now 12s down on his team-mate.
Lap 16Webber passes Liuzzi but is too hot into the Casino turn and runs wide and Lizzi takes the position back.
Lap 18The pits stops should start in a few laps for the two stoppers.
Lap 19Hamilton has the gap out to 10s over Heidfeld with Alonso another 6s back with Massa close behind.
Lap 19Alonso runs off at turn one for the third time and loses position to Massa.
Lap 20So Massa now runs third and Alonso is having a poor race.
Lap 21Light fuelled Heidfeld pits from second early as expected.
Lap 21That may be a three stop from Heidfeld who exits just ahead of Kubica
Lap 22Trulli, Liuzzi and Webber run together.
Lap 22Hamilton pits with a 20s lead over Massa.
Lap 23A clean stop for Hamilton and exits ahead of Kimi Rakkonen.
Lap 23Webber has pitted from 12th.
Lap 23The safety car is out...
Lap 24Alonso pitted just ahead of the s/c. It was sutil who hit the wall hard and has stopped his Spyker. Rosberg also pitted just ahead of the safety car.
Lap 24So the S/c is on track.
Lap 25Sutil got it wrong into turn four and hit his right side of the Spyker along the wall breaking the suspension. He was ahead of Albers in 19th at the time.
Lap 25The pit lane is now open and this will cost Ferrari.
Lap 25Massa, Fisichella, Raikkonen, Kubica, Trulli, Sato all pit. This will cost them all big time. It is debatable if Alonso and Rosberg pitted after the FCY flew.
Lap 26So the order is really jumbled... Raikkonen left the pit lane with the red light on.
Lap 27So the race is back underway with Hamilton ahead of Heidfeld, Alonso and Rosberg.
Lap 27Big shunt for Kubica
Lap 28Kubica has had a big accident, Safety car. A huge shunt heading to the Casino hairpin with a flip. We hope he is okay but a massive shunt.
Lap 28The s/c is out. A penalty for Alonso and Rosberg for pitting under yellow. A 10s penalty.
Lap 29So the s/c is out.
Lap 29Trulli has pitted and dropping out it seems.
Lap 30All concern here now is for Kubica who speared off the track heading to the Casino hairpin. F1 cars are amazingly strong and he had a major impact before rolling and coming to rest at the turn in areas for the corner.
Lap 31Others at the back of the field are pitting. Hamilton leads.
Lap 32Kubica is out of the car and the remains of the F1.07 are being taken away. I'm sorry, but I know no more.
Lap 34The race is back underway. Hamilton leads Alonso, Rosberg and Davison. There is a penalty on the way for Rosberg and Alonso. A ten second penalty.
Lap 35TV replays of the Kubica's shunt show he and Ralf Schumacher got together and Kubica was sent into the wall. Given they showed a replay may indicated that he is okay. But I can confirm nothing.
Lap 36Alonso and Rosberg both pit to take a ten second penalty. They are being held... and now they head back out.
Lap 38Davidson pits from third and no one is there for him at all.
Lap 38Rosberg and Trulli have got together at turn one.
Lap 39There was no contact and now they do a spin each before getting under way again. This race is in dissaray.
Lap 39Lets' take stock as as Hamilton leads Heidfeld by five seconds. Ralf Schumacher is third but has not pitted, Webber is fourth and has stopped and is a second head of Massa, Fisichella, Sato and Raikkonen.
Lap 41Schumacher pits his Toyota and drops down the order.
Lap 42Alonso now runs in ninth position and his working his way back up the order. Hamilton reamins in command at the front from Heidfeld, Webber, Massa and Fisichella.
Lap 44Robert Kubica is in a stable condition according to reports. I cannot confirm those reports it must be said, but perhaps it is very good news.
Lap 46So Hamilton leads Heidfeld, Webber, Massa, Fisichella, Sato, Raikkonen and Alonso.
Lap 47Fisichella (5th) and Massa (4th) both exited the pit lane under a red light - as did Montoya a year or so ago. Both are reportedly under investigation.
Lap 48Heidfeld pits from second position.
Lap 49Hamilton now pits and takes the soft tyres. He has no choice on the matter as Fisichella pits.
Lap 49Albers has been off in the second Spyker and broken the front wing. He makes it back to the pits.
Lap 50Takuma Sato continues to hold off Raikkonen.
Lap 51A safety car
Lap 51A slow stop for Sato just ahead of that safety car.
Lap 52The s/c seems to be out for Albers' off. It is a bit late as they have all been through there one or more times.
lap 52Ficichella has been disqualified.
Lap 53Massa has also been disqualified.
Lap 53Both Massa and Fisichella have been given the black flag for exiting the pit lane with the red lights being dispalyed at the end of the pit lane earlier.
Lap 53Raikkonen, Alonso and Ralf Schumacher pit.
Lap 54Alonso beats Raikkonen out of the pits.
Lap 54So as the s/c peels off, Webber pits the Red Bull from second.
Lap 55The 'race' is back underway as Sato seems to be cruising.
Lap 55Alonso (8th) is all over the back of Kovalainen and now we have Liuzzi in the wall as Alonso takes to the grass for a third time into turn one...
Lap 56Another safety car...
Lap 57With the race halted yet again, Hamilton continues to lead.
Lap 57This is not a race it is a mess. Beyone the top two, it means very little but survival.
Lap 58Barrichello runs third and fourth and have to pit again. They should pit under the s/c really but are not doing so it seems.
Lap 59Trulli pits from sixth
Lap 60Now Trulli has nosed it into the wall at turn one and is out of the race. Cold tyres it seems, but take out one more runner.
Lap 60Well this farce of a race continues... and Hamilton will hopefully get the race back underway. One tricky track and they all fall off - amazing.
Lap 61The race is green again.
Lap 61Alonso is eighth and looking to make up ground.
Lap 61Alonso passes Schumcher for seventh position.
Lap 64Now Barrichello pits and Sato moves ahead of Ralf Schumacher.
Lap 65Hamilton leads Heidfeld, Wurz, Kovalainen, Raikkonen and Alonso.
Lap 67Sato gets a nice run on Schumacher and makes the pass into the final turn for P7.
Lap 68Sato is putting Alonso under pressure now. Alonso has been off so many times he must have problems.
Lap 69Sato passes Alonso into the final turn - a great move from the SA driver.
Lap 69Hamilton set to win his first Grand Prix.
Lap 70Hamilton wins the Canadian Grand Prix from Heidfeld, Wurz, Kovalainen, Raikkonen, Sato, Alonso and Schumacher.
Lap 70Pole Position to win for Hamilton on a tough day full of no less than four safety cars. Alonso was 7th and therefore Hamilton is firmly the leader heading to Indy.
