13:56:33 Welcome to F1-Live.com and our live coverage of the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend. This afternoon we have coverage of the second Friday practice session from Sepang.
13:56:51 This morning’s session saw Felipe Massa set the pace for Ferrari with a best time of 1:34.972s just over two-tenth ahead of Fernando Alonso in the McLaren Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton was third fastest while Kimi Raikkonen was fourth.
13:57:12 Williams looked on form with Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima both in the top ten while Mark Webber was an encouraging sixth fastest in the Red Bull Renault.
13:58:13 BMW Sauber have yet to show their hand as Robert Kubica was tenth fastest while Renault seem to be struggling again with Kovalainen and Fisichella just 14th and 15th this morning. Another team on the slide is Honda. Barrichello and Button were 19th and 20th this morning and seem to be facing another tough weekend.
14:00:06 The 90 minute practice session is now underway.
14:00:22 Nick Heidfeld has taken over from Sebastian Vettel while Alex Wurz is in for Nakajima.
14:00:56 Heidfeld, Davidson Sato, Sutil, Albers and Ralf Schumacher head out.
14:01:54 Wurz, Kubica, Fisichella, Speed, Kovalainen, Liuzzi and Trulli join the action.
14:02:26 Ralf pits the Toyota, the others stay out and start timed laps.
14:03:02 Barrichello and Webber head out for Honda and Red Bull.
14:04:09 Davidson and Sato record the first laps, about a second off the morning pace.
14:05:38 Trulli and Kovalainen move one-two.
14:05:41 Hamilton and Alonso are on track for McLaren
14:05:58 Webber moves second fastest ahead of Liuzzi.
14:07:17 Massa and Raikkonen head out for Ferrari
14:08:13 Rosberg is up to third in the Williams. The team are hoping for a better qualifying session this weekend as they had good race pace in Melbourne, but a poor qualifying session let them down.
14:08:37 Alonso and Hamilton move one-two for McLaren.
14:09:09 Button makes a big gain as he moves third. That is over a second faster than he managed this morning.
14:09:37 Massa has pitted as Raikkonen starts his first timed lap.
14:11:29 Raikkonen moves third fastest behind the two McLarens.
14:12:02 Robert Kubica is on track in his BMW Sauber. Heidfeld pitted earlier and has yet to set a time.
14:13:04 Kubica moves fastest with a time four-tenths better than the morning session.
14:14:20 Raikkonen improves his time but remains fourth ahead of Button.
14:14:45 After a pitstop, Kovalainen and Fisichella are back out for Renault.
14:15:41 Alex Wurz is working his way up the order in what are his first laps on the day in the Williams.
14:17:09 Raikkonen remains on track. Alonso and Hamilton have both pitted.
14:18:05 Fisichella moves fifth in his Renault only to get bumped down a position as Kovalainen moves P4.
14:18:21 Raikkonen pits as Massa heads out.
14:20:25 Kubica, fastest, heads to the BMW pit. Team-mate Heidfeld has just moved seventh fastest.
14:22:27 Massa's first timed lap moves him into the top ten, but is currently nearly three seconds off his morning best time.
14:24:50 Hamilton is back out in his McLaren. Coulthard also joins the action in the Red Bull Renault.
14:25:11 Mark Webber vaults second fastest in his RB3
14:26:20 Most of the front runners are back on track
14:28:27 Former champion Mika Hakkinen is watching McLaren's progress from the Sepang pit.
14:28:49 Fisichella improves his own best time and moves second fastest.
14:29:55 Raikkonen ups his pace and takes P1. With the times a couple of seconds off the fastest times of this morning, it's pretty clear most are running heavy fuel loads.
14:32:18 Rubens Barrichello is currently slowest having completd just a handful of laps in his Honda.
14:32:47 The Brazilian heads back out now aiming to move up the order.
14:34:50 Raikkonen continues his long stint in the Ferrari. Team-mate Massa is also on track
14:36:07 Barrichello moves ahead of Albers, but is some way off the pace of Button at the moment.
14:37:02 A much faster lap from Massa as he moves P1
14:37:47 A performance gain like that can only come from new tyres. It is a Ferrari one-two at the moment. Fisichella is back out.
14:40:10 Nico Rosberg moves up and splits the Ferrari duo with a time just two-tenths down on his morning best.
14:42:41 On these longer runs, Fisichella is much closer to the pace of the Ferrari duo than the fastest times suggest, in the region of half a second behind.
14:44:28 Barrichello remains down in 21st splitting the Spyker duo of Sutil and Albers.
14:45:31 Kovalainen improves as does Button in the Honda.
14:47:58 I take back that comment from earlier. Fiscihella's long run lap times are now some way off the times that Massa is able to put in.
14:48:45 Albers pits having failed to make up any time on team-mate Sutil. Barrichello meanwhile has made a slight gain.
14:50:44 Alex Wurz moves his Williams Toyota into the top ten as Hamilton moves fifth in the McLaren.
14:52:18 Wurz moves up to third. The circuit is now quite busy.
14:55:47 Massa and Fisischella pit after a long run.
14:57:32 Raikkonen is back out and looking to move up the order
14:58:52 Raikkonen does improve and moves seconds behing Massa.
14:59:50 Massa joins his team-mate on track
15:02:15 Sato improves to 11th in the Super Aguri Honda.
15:06:45 The long runs continue, so no major changes in terms of fastest lap times. Alonso and Hamilton are both on long stints and lapping at a similar pace.
15:06:58 Heidfeld, 16th, is back on track.
15:08:21 Heidfeld moves his BMW Sauber into teh top ten. The team has not shown the raw pace so far here that they demonstrated in Australia. Yet.
15:13:05 News coming in suggests that the Spyker have had their Toro Rosso protest thrown out by the Stewards beacuse the issue is heading for arbitration. Quite why they didn't say that yesterday is beyond me...
15:14:48 Back at the track, it is business as usual with Ferrari first and second lapping way faster than their rivals on the long stint.
15:15:49 Raikkonen finally pits. A lot of laps from both Raikkonen and Massa so far in this session.
15:16:08 Albers, 22nd, has a right rear puncture.
15:16:40 There's some debris from the Spyker on the start-finish straight as he pulls the car off track and stops.
15:17:04 The red flags are out and the session has be halted.
15:18:44 Everyone is has returned to the pits, so the red is for the bits of Spyker debris.
15:19:33 So Albers is slowest and now out of the session as his difficult season continues.
15:21:06 The clock continues to count down with less than ten minutes remaining of the Friday session.
15:22:26 The session resumes with eight minutes remaining.
15:22:50 So a six minute stoppage to recover the debris.
15:23:42 If anyone is going to go for a lap time, now is the time to do it. Massa's mornig time of 1:34.972 is way faster than anything seen so far in this session.
15:24:44 Mark Webber, ninth, has stopped in his Red Bull.
15:25:42 It seems to be a straight forward mechanical issue on the RB3.
15:26:31 A suspected gearbox failure for Webber as Ralf Schumacher moves sixth fastest.
15:27:21 Fisichella and Kovalainen move second and third fastest for Renault.
15:30:12 The chequered flag is out. They can finish the lap they are on, so there may be some improvements.... but I doubt it...
15:30:50 Fisichella pits his Renault.
15:31:34 No one on a hot lap it seems so it is Massa at the head of the timesheets once again in the Ferrari with Raikkonen fourth.
15:32:24 Fisichella and Kovalainen are second and third ahead of Raikkonen, Rosberg, Wurz, Kubica Ralf Schumacher, Hamilton and Heidfeld.
