13.30Welcome to F1-Live.com and our live coverage of the 53-lap Italian Grand Prix. The race gets underway in 30 minutes.
13.32Controversy is nothing new to Formula One, but the series has reached new heights this weekend with the decision to penalise Fernando Alonso five positions on the grid for blocking Felipe Massa. As a result, Alonso starts the race from tenth position on the grid.
13.34The Stewards’ decision is curious at best as Alonso was flat out all the way around the lap and Massa was not even that close to the Renault. Hopefully this decision will play no part in the outcome of the Championship.
13.36Kimi Raikkonen starts the race from Pole Position in his McLaren Mercedes, piping Michael Schumacher to the Pole by just two-thousandths of a second. He is chasing his first win of the season and is set to be announced as a Ferrari driver for next season later on today.
13.38This is a big day for Michael Schumacher on and off the track. While we all await news of his decision for 2007, on track he has a good chance of closing the 12 point gap to Alonso in the championship chase. He and team-mate Felipe Massa are aiming for the clean sweep this afternoon.
13.40Nick Heidfeld did a great job to qualify his BMW Sauber in third position. The F1.06 has proven very rapid in a straight-line and should help both Heidfeld and Robert Kubica (starting sixth) in their bid to score solid points for the team.
13.42Felipe Massa starts fourth after he was unable to improve on his final qualifying run yesterday. Massa has been fast all weekend long and will be looking to shadow team-mate Schumacher to the chequered flag.
13.44Jenson Button starts fifth in his Honda. The team may not have the pace to be a contender for the win, but he and Barrichello (starting eighth) will be a factor for the points.
13.46Pedro de la Rosa starts a disappointing seventh in the second McLaren Mercedes. He needs a strong race as Lewis Hamilton is now free of his GP2 duties and is waiting in the wings for the Chinese Grand Prix.
13.48Renault have it all to do today. Their constructors’ advantage of one point is likely to disappear and with Giancarlo Fisichella qualifying starting a poor ninth at his home race, all eyes will be on Alonso who will be looking to move quickly towards the front.
13.50Jarno Trulli starts 11th in his Toyota ahead of Nico Rosberg in the Williams and Ralf Schumacher in the second Toyota. The Red Bull four-some takes positions 14 through17 with Coulthard ahead of Speed, Klien and Liuzzi.
13.52Christian Albers starts 18th in his MF1 Toyota and keen for a good race following the news that the team has been sold to Spyker. Mark Webber starts a dismal 19th in the second Williams ahead of Monteiro and the Super Aguri duo of Sato and Yamamoto.
13.54There is a huge crowd on hand and of course this being Monza, all the fans are in the red Ferrari uniform on this sunny day.
13.56The drivers are all in the cars. The grid is packed with the crews as they await the start.
13.58Takuma Sato will start the race from the pit lane.
13.59The engines fire up and the grid is being cleared.
14.00The parade lap is underway as Kimi Raikkonen leads Michael Schumacher off the dummy grid.
14.01Raikkonen and the rest are busy warming the brakes and tyres on this lap.
14.02Raikkonen lines his McLaren up on the Pole Position ahead of Schumacher, Heidfeld, Massa and Button.
Lap 1The Italian Grand Prix is Go!
Lap 1Kubica is up to third ahead of team-mate Heidfeld.
Lap 1Heidfeld did run second but Schumacher got the position back.
Lap 1Heidfeld is struggling for pace who is falling back fast.
Lap 2Alonso passes heidfeld but runs off at the first chicane. He needs to let him back through.
Lap 2Heidfeld is so slow Alonso cannot wait for him to get back through.
Lap 2Raikkonen leads Schumacher, Kubica, Massa, Button and Alonso.
Lap 3Massa is right with Kubica and looking to take third.
Lap 4Alonso may get a penalty for that pass on Heidfeld.
Lap 4Kubica is keeping his BMW Sauber ahead of Massa as Monteiro and Albers battle at the back of the field.
Lap 5Webber has gained ground at the start from his P19 on the grid and now runs 13th behind Trulli.
Lap 6Kubica is dropping back in third while Alonso (6th) is right with Button and seeking a way through.
Lap 7Schumacher is pushing hard and keeping the gap to Raikkonen at one second.
Lap 7Sato has moved ahead of team-mate Yamamoto
Lap 8Kubica is doing a sensational job to stay ahead of Massa who clearly has the faster car.
Lap 9Massa loses the back end under braking but just saves the car.
Lap 10Rosberg (11th) is coasting with yet another mechanical problem. What a terrible season for Williams.
Lap 11Rosberg is pitting with no drive. It is probably a hydraulic failure.
Lap 11Raikkonen and Schumacher remain out front with the gap between one and two seconds per lap.
Lap 11Pedro de la Rosa is still eigth and nearly 20s behind his team-mate.
Lap 13Alonso has a look to try and pass Button into the first chicane but thinks better of it.
Lap 14As soon as Alonso clears Button, expect Massa to find speed and move ahead of Kubica to play the team role.
Lap 15Pedro de la Rosa pits from eighth position. A poor race so far from him.
Lap 15De la Rosa is the first to stop and is therefore on a two stop strategy.
Lap 16Raikkonen pits his McLaren from the lead. Good news for Michael Schumacher who stays out.
Lap 16Raikkonen now runs behind Heidfeld.
Lap 17Schumacher pits from the lead.
Lap 18Schumacher exits ahead of Raikkonen and behind Heidfeld.
Lap 18So Kubica leads in just his third Grand Prix.
Lap 19Massa seems happy to follow Kubica at this stage.
Lap 19Fisichella still runs eighth and is unable to help Alonso at all at this stage.
Lap 20Massa and Alonso both pit.
Lap 20Massa rejoins and gives Trulli a hard time in the first turn to keep position.
Lap 20For Alonso, he is behind Trulli. He is having a tough race...
Lap 21Button pits his Honda. It will be close with him and Alonso...
Lap 21Button exits just ahead of Alonso.
Lap 21Alonso takes Button into the second chicane.
Lap 22Nick Heidfeld pits his BMW Sauber.
Lap 22Kubica is pushing hard at the front. He is still leading but has yet to pit.
Lap 22Pedro de la Rosa (15th) is off track as Alonso is now stuck behind Heidfeld.
Lap 23Kubica pits from the lead.
Lap 23So after the first round of stops, Schumacher has gained the lead from Raikkonen. Fisichella is now third but has yet to stop.
Lap 24Heidfeld's stop also gained him position over Button and Alonso.
Lap 25Nick Heidfeld (8th) has been handed a drive through penalty for speeding in the pits. That is how he gained those two positions...
Lap 26Heidfeld heads in for his penalty.
Lap 26Fisichella, Barrichello have yet to pit. They are probably on one stop strategies.
Lap 27Fisichella (3rd) pits his Renault. That will be his final stop.
Lap 28Fisichella is now down in P10
Lap 28One of the Super Aguri cars has the fuel flap open. That will slow the car a great deal on the strights.
Lap 28Massa runs wide at the first Lesmo but continues.
Lap 29Ralf Schumacher pits from 14th. They really are struggling this weekend.
Lap 30Trulli is having his one and only stop in the second Toyota. He was seventh.
Lap 31Coulthard, Klien and Liuzzi are all battling as Speed takes his stop.
Lap 31Barrichello makes his only stop from fourth.
Lap 31Webber pits from P8.
Lap 32Schumacher dives under Liuzzi who had just exited the pits. he loses a little time but Raikkonen is not close enough to take advanatge.
Lap 32Robert Kubica runs in third position. He pitted on lap 23 so he is on the same strategy as Schumacher and Raikkonen.
Lap 32Fisichella runs in seventh now but does not need to stop again. He is 40s behind the leader so can close that to 15s or so as they pit so he is in contention for third or more likley fourth
Lap 34Klien has yet to pit.....
Lap 37Klien makes his first stop from 11th as Raikkonen and Schumacher continue to lap three seconds apart
Lap 38The second rounds of stops should begin soon as Alonso is closing in on the back of Massa (4th)
Lap 39Raikkonen pits from second position for his second and final stop.
Lap 39Raikkonen exits ahead of Kubica and Massa.
Lap 40Schumacher heads to the pits for his final stop.
Lap 40Schumacher exits ahead of Raikkonen as Massa pits
Lap 40Fisichella is not lapping fast enough to take advantage of his one stop strategy.
Lap 41Alonso has closed right in on Kubica who is looking to make the pass.
Lap 41Heidfeld pits for the second time. A clean stop.
Lap 42Kubica and Alonso both pit. A big stop for Alonso
Lap 42They exit side by side and Kubica has to yield.
Lap 42Monteiro is in the pits with a problem.
Lap 42So Alonso has gained position over both Kubica and Massa in that second round of stops and is therefore looking at P3.
Lap 44Raikkonen has no answer to the speed of Schumacher it seems as he is dropping back a little each lap.
Lap 44Monteiro is back in the race after a long stop.
Lap 44Wow - Alonso's engine has failed. he was in third position.
Lap 44That is cruel luck for the Championship leader.
Lap 45Massa went off track at turn one - perhaps on Alonso's oil abd has pitted for a new front tyre after picking up a puncture.
Lap 46It was a massive engine failure from the Renault. He is out of the car and will see his championship lead trimmed to 2 points.
Lap 46It was the right front wheel changed on Massa's car. He now runs in ninth after that third stop.
Lap 47Monteiro is the final runner and keeps pitting. His race is effectively over.
Lap 48Raikkonen has back off the pace and has settled for second as Schumacher now leads by 8s.
Lap 48Alonso is walking to the Renault motorhome leaving his crash helmet on to avoid the media questions.
Lap 49Schumacher looks set for his 90th victory from Raikkonen while Kubica is on target for his first podium in just his third race!
Lap 49Fisichella is up to fourth and may come under pressure from Button in the final laps.
Lap 51Massa is chasing Heidfeld and keen to get back into the points.
Lap 51Heidfeld has a go at passing Trulli into the first chicane but does not get the move done.
Lap 52Trulli, Heidfeld and Massa run nose to tail.
Lap 52Final seconds of the race for Michael Schumacher who is set to take the win from Raikkonen and Kubica.
Lap 53The chequered flag is out and Michael Schumacher crosses the line to record his 90th Formula One victory.
Lap 53Raikkonen takes P2 from Kubica, Fisichella, Button, Barrichello, Trulli and Heidfeld.
Lap 53Schumacher is on his slow down lap as the crowd cheer. We all await his announcement in the coming hours.
