| 13.30 | Welcome to F1-Live.com and our live coverage of the 66 lap Spanish Grand Prix. |
| 13.32 | Felipe Massa secured his third straight Pole Position yesterday at the Spanish venue as he aims to close the championship gap on his major three rivals, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. The Bahrain winner starts from the pole with a best lap of 1:21.421s. |
| 13.34 | While Massa has the Pole, it is close behind. Fernando Alonso has a massive following at his home circuit and starts from second position in his McLaren. Alonso’s race pace over the weekend has been most impressive, so the Spaniard is very much up for chasing Massa for the race win. |
| 13.36 | The second row of the grid is taken by Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton. Raikkonen starts third and has not shown the pace expected so far this weekend, but as ever, if the Finn is in the mood for a fight, he will be a contender for the victory. |
| 13.37 | Hamilton meanwhile has been fast in practice, but has not shown great race pace as yet on the longer runs. He of course is chasing an unprecedented fourth straight podium result from his fourth Grand Prix and may well have a little more fuel on board than Massa and Alonso. |
| 13.38 | Behind the leading two teams, the battle for the best of the rest goes on. BMW Sauber have so far proved to be the third best team in F1 but this weekend it is not Nick Heidfeld who holds the upper hand, but team-mate Robert Kubica who starts a fine fifth in his F1.07. After a difficult start to the season, it will be interesting to see if Kubica can put in a strong race for the BMW owned team. |
| 13.40 | Jarno Trulli may not be the next Michael Schumacher, but he is one very fine qualifier. Trulli put the TF107 firmly on the third row of the grid after a fine effort as he looks continues the point’s collection game for Toyota. Team-mate Ralf Schumacher starts 17th and is unlikely to be a factor. |
| 13.42 | Nick Heidfeld starts seventh in his BMW Sauber and will be a contender this afternoon. Heidfeld has proven he can race and pass the best in F1 on his day and it will be interesting to see if he can continue his momentum from the previous races for BMW Sauber. |
| 13.44 | Over at Renault and Heikki Kovalainen has qualified in the top ten for the first time which is no major achievement. Still, the Finn will be looking to retain his eighth position on the grid and hopefully bring home some much needed points. Giancarlo Fisichella starts tenth and will also be looking for a lower points paying result. |
| 13.46 | David Coulthard was most impressive in Bahrain as he worked his way through the field before retiring whilst on target for sixth position. Starting ninth, hopefully Red Bull will continue with that aggressive strategy as they chase their first points of the season. Team-mate Mark Webber had gearbox problems in qualifying and has it all to do from 19th on the grid. |
| 13.48 | Outside of the top ten and Williams Toyota continue to disappoint. In Nico Rosberg they have a fine driver but in qualifying he could only manage 11th position. It is now a long time since this team was a winning force in Formula One and based on the FW29 package, they are still a long way short on the front running teams. Rosberg will be aiming to add to his two points scored in Australia while Alex Wurz will be aiming for anything other than his 18th position on the grid. |
| 13.50 | Four Honda powered and financed cars take positions 11 to 15 on the grid. Rubens Barrichello leads the way from Takuma Sato, Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson. Barrichello has show good race pace and may be able to mix it with the likes of Renault for lower points, but the fact remains the 2007 Honda is not good and the 2006 Honda, while good in its day, is no longer much good either. |
| 13.52 | As for the rest, it will be hard race for the Toro Rosso Ferrari team and the Spyker team, but at least they will get a chance to mix it a bit with the likes of Ralf Schumacher, Alex Wurz and Mark Webber. These runners will not be contenders, but as ever are likely to provide some good racing at the back of the pack. |
| 13.54 | With GP2 in action twice, and thrilling races they were too, and other support events, the circuit will be very different for the F1 drivers than it was at the end of qualifying yesterday. |
| 13.56 | The drivers are all now in the cars and getting ready for the start of the parade lap. There is a massive crowd on hand as we get ready for the start of the Spanish Grand Prix. |
| 13.58 | It is another hot and sunny day very similar to yesterday. We expect most to take to the start with the softer medium tyre, saving the hard tyre for the final stint. |
| 13.59 | The engines fire up and the dummy grid is now being cleared. |
| 14.00 | Felipe Massa peels away from his pole slot to start the formation lap with the rest of the field in tow. |
| 14.00 | It seems they are all away from the dummy grid. |
| 14.01 | They are all warming the brakes and the tyres. |
| 14.02 | Massa lines up on his Pole Position with Alonso, Raikkonen, Hamilton and the rest taking up position. Ferrari on the left, McLaren on the right. |
| 14.03 | Trulli (6th) has stalled and the start is aborted. |
| 14.04 | Trulli is pushed off into the pit lane and the rest are now on another formation lap. |
| 14.04 | A shame for Trulli and Toyota. |
| 14.06 | Massa lines up on the Pole again and hopefully this time it will be a clean start. |
| Lap 1 | The Spanish Grand Prix is now underway! |
| Lap 1 | Alonso runs wide but escapes. |
| Lap 1 | Massa and Alonso were side by side through turn one and now Hamilton runs second ahead of Raikkonen with Alonso down to fourth. |
| Lap 1 | Alonso tried to go around the outside. Wurz in trouble and slowing. |
| Lap 2 | Massa leads Hamilton, Raikkonen, Alonso, Kubica. |
| Lap 2 | Ralf pits his Toyota. |
| Lap 2 | New nose for Ralf as Wurz pits. Must have been contact with him and Wurz. |
| Lap 2 | Alonso tries to pass Raikkonen but has to back off. |
| Lap 3 | Massa is dropping Hamilton with Raikkonen not far behind. |
| Lap 3 | Wurz has retired his Williams. A rotten weekend is over for the Austrian. |
| Lap 3 | Trulli is in the race after starting from the pits. He had a fuel pressure problem. |
| Lap 4 | Coulthard runs seventh having gained two positions. |
| Lap 4 | There was slight contact into t1 at the start as Alonso tried to go around the outside at the start. Alonso is lucky to be in the race still after his trip through the gravel. |
| Lap 5 | Trulli has got ahead of by Spyker's |
| Lap 6 | Fisichella made an error at the start of the race and is now trying to regain ground. He is pushing to get ahead of Jenson Button. |
| Lap 7 | Massa is pulling out a margin now over Hamilton who does not have the pace to stay with the Ferrari driver. Raikkonen and Alonso remain close begind with Kubica and Heidfeld not being dropped. |
| Lap 8 | Webber (15th) is pitting. He has a problem with the Red Bull Renault. Terribel reliability from that team. |
| Lap 9 | Trulli pits his Toyota. |
| Lap 9 | Trulli retires the Toyota. |
| Lap 10 | Raikkonen is slowing - he has a problem. |
| Lap 10 | Raikkonen is trying to get back to the pits by it is a major problem. He was third. |
| Lap 11 | Raikkonen is being pushed back to his pit. Race over for Raikkonen. |
| Lap 11 | Speed (14th) has a left rear tyre failure and stops at turn one. |
| Lap 11 | Alonso, now third, will try to close the gap to team-mate Hamilton. |
| Lap 12 | Fisichella continues to shadow Button |
| Lap 13 | Massa pulls another half second over Hamilton and the gap is over seven seconds now. |
| Lap 14 | After his lap one stop, Ralf Schumacher is still in the race as he is looking to close the half minute gap on Albers. |
| Lap 14 | Alonso remains four seconds back on Hamilton. It could be he damamged his car slightly on lap one. |
| Lap 15 | Massa aside, the others in a potential points position are lapping at a similar pace. |
| Lap 16 | Hamilton is struggling for pace and falling back but Alonso is not really closing much either. |
| Lap 18 | Coulthard runs in sixth position and is not being dropped by the BMW Sauber duo. |
| Lap 19 | Button's front left tyre has a couple of flat spots. |
| Lap 19 | Barrichello pits from ninth position. A routine stop. |
| Lap 20 | Massa pits from the lead. |
| Lap 20 | Alonso pits from third. |
| Lap 20 | Massa had a small fire as he left the pit box. He continues. |
| Lap 20 | Kovalainen pits from seventh. A flash fire on Massa's ferrari but he is underway. |
| Lap 20 | Liuzzi (13th) cruising and has a problem. |
| Lap 21 | So Hamilton leads as Coulthard pits from sixth. |
| Lap 21 | Kubica pits his BMW Sauber. |
| Lap 22 | Massa runs ahead of Rosberg and Aloso behind. Button and Fisichella both pit. |
| Lap 22 | Button and Barrichello make contact in turn one. Button has lost his front wing. Oh dear. |
| Lap 23 | Hamilton has pitted his McLaren. |
| Lap 23 | Button clipped the kerb and bounced into Barrichello. |
| Lap 23 | Button returns to the Honda pit. He really should have given some more space to his team-mate. |
| Lap 24 | Rosberg pits his Williams. |
| Lap 24 | Nick Heidfeld pits his BMW Sauber. |
| Lap 25 | A problem as the wheel was not changed. He has no wheel nut on that BMW. |
| Lap 25 | Heidfeld is cruising. He left without the right front wheel put properly attached. A rare mistake from BMW. |
| Lap 26 | Phew. Plenty of incident. |
| Lap 26 | Heidfeld returns to the pits. |
| Lap 27 | Fisichella no longer has Button to chase, so he is chasing Barrichello now. |
| Lap 27 | So after the first round of stops, Massa has a nine second lead over Hamilton while Alonso is continuing to fall away in third. Alonso must have damaged that McLaren at the start as he is now showing well at all. |
| Lap 28 | Davidson pits from eighth. |
| Lap 29 | Kovalainen has a run on Coulthard |
| Lap 30 | Massa is in firm control at the front. |
| Lap 31 | Kovalainen pits for the second time. He was chasing Coulthard hard. |
| Lap 31 | Strange to see Kovalainen pits after just ten or so laps. Odd strategy from Renault. |
| Lap 32 | Kubica is still only a couple of seconds behind Alonso. |
| Lap 33 | Kovalainen is pushing hard but his second stop has moved him behind Rosberg. |
| Lap 34 | If Kovalainen does not pit again, he should be able to move ahead of rivals Coulthard and Rosberg. |
| Lap 34 | Fisichella remains stuck behind Barrichello and cannot find a way ahead. |
| Lap 35 | A drive through penalty for Christijan Albers for ignoring the blue flags. He is having a poor season unable to match his team-mate pace and making mistakes. |
| Lap 36 | Alonso still runs third in his home race. No dream result for the Spaniard today. |
| Lap 37 | If the results stay as they are, Hamilton will be the championship leader. |
| Lap 38 | Coulthard, fifth, is closing slightly on Kubica. |
| Lap 39 | Massa has the gap out to nearly 18 seconds. |
| Lap 39 | Alonso is on the harder tyre for this middle stint and it has cost him about four secods so far. |
| Lap 40 | Things are pretty static at the moment. Second round of stops any time now. |
| Lap 42 | Fisichella pits from ninth. The question is if Kovalainen will pit again. I think he will. |
| Lap 43 | Massa pits with a 19 second lead. Barrichello also pits in his battle with Fisichella. |
| Lap 42 | Coulthard pits from fifth |
| Lap 43 | Kovalainen pits. Odd. A very strange call from Renault. |
| Lap 43 | Fisichella cleared Barrichello in the second round of stops. |
| Lap 44 | Rosberg has pitted his Williams. |
| Lap 45 | Fisichella has to pit again as he has a fuel rig problem. That also explains why Kovalainen had to stop on lap 31. Ralf pits but is not a factor. |
| Lap 46 | A retirement from Ralf Schumacher. A bad day for Toyota. |
| Lap 47 | Hamilton leads Massa but Hamilton has yet to make his second stop. |
| Lap 47 | Sato pits from seventh. |
| Lap 47 | Hamilton pits his McLaren. |
| Lap 48 | Kubica makes his final stop. |
| Lap 48 | Nick Heidfeld has retired his BMW Sauber. |
| Lap 49 | Alonso pits his McLaren for the final time. |
| Lap 49 | So Alonso is on the soft tyre for his final stint and that should help him stay ahead of Kubica. |
| Lap 50 | Massa leads Hamilton by ten seconds with Alonso way back in third with Kubica close behind. Button pits his Honda. |
| Lap 51 | Kubica is dropping back a little now from Alonso. |
| Lap 52 | Hamilton locks up his brakes showing he is still pushing hard. |
| Lap 53 | As things stand, Renault will get a double points finish. |
| Lap 54 | Alonso remains third and is closing the gap to Hamilton a little each lap on the softer tyres. Unless hamilton has a problem he will be safe in second position though. |
| Lap 55 | Kovalainen is now just three seconds behind Nico Rosberg. |
| Lap 56 | A lot of retirements in this race. Wurz hit Ralf Schumacher which eventually ended the day for both. Fuel issue for Trulli. Raikkonen with an electrical problem, a puncture for Speed. |
| Lap 57 | Liuzzi some kind of mechanical issue and Heidfeld a wheel nut issue. |
| Lap 59 | Massa will now be happy to back off a little and let the gap come down as he is in full control of the race. |
| Lap 59 | Fisichella pits his Renault for the third time. |
| Lap 60 | Sato passes Fisichella and is now in eighth position. |
| Lap 61 | Coulthard puts in a slow lap for some reason. He must have gone off track. He remains fifth. |
| Lap 61 | Fisichella is chasing Sato to try and get the final point. |
| Lap 61 | Coulthard seems to have a problem as he is losing a lot of time. |
| Lap 62 | Alonso is now lapping as fast as he ever has in this race. A strange race from Alonso. |
| Lap 63 | Coulthard seems to be stuck in gear or has a shift problem. He is only losing a few seconds a lap to Rosberg though. |
| Lap 64 | Rosberg is homing in on the back of the Red Bull. A stressful end to the race for Coulthard. |
| Lap 65 | Massa is backing off and allowing Hamilton to close in. |
| Lap 65 | Massa is now on his last lap. |
| Lap 65 | Massa wins the Spanish Grand Prix. |
| Lap 65 | Hamilton takes second position and leads the championship. |
| Lap 65 | Alonso is third ahead of Kubica, Coulthard and Rosberg who is unable to take P5 from the Red Bull driver. |
| Lap 65 | Kovalainen is seventh with the final point going to Sato. |
