12.30Welcome to F1-Live.com and our live coverage of the 60-lap British Grand Prix. Contrary to all weather predictions this week, it is a dry and sunny day at Silverstone.
12.32Lewis Hamilton pulled a superb lap out of the bag yesterday to pip Kimi Raikkonen to the pole position by a tenth of a second. Hamilton had trailed in fourth position until his final last gasp effort and much to the delight of the British crowd, he got the job done.
12.34Hamilton hysteria as the media are dubbing it, has gripped Silverstone this weekend, by while Hamilton has the pole, Ferrari have looked very strong all weekend long. Were it not for a small error from Raikkonen on his final run, he would be starting P1.
12.36As ever, most will opt for a two stop strategy, but the big question is how long they will run in the first stint. Hamilton is rumoured to be a little lighter on fuel than Raikkonen and team-mate Fernando Alonso who starts third in the second McLaren Mercedes.
12.38For Alonso, nothing but a win will be good enough as he trails his rookie team-mate by 14 points. The defending champion was on good form in qualifying and may be able to take the shine off Hamilton’s dream weekend.
12.40Felipe Massa had a relatively low-key qualifying run to fourth position. After losing out to team-mate Raikkonen at the French Grand Prix last Sunday, the momentum has swung Raikkonen’s way. Without a doubt however, the top four are all capable of winning this race.
12.42Robert Kubica qualified his BMW Sauber fifth and admits he is leading the ‘B’ championship at Silverstone. It was an impressive run from Kubica, but he knows that unless there are major problems ahead, he is racing to retain his fifth position. Team-mate Nick Heidfeld is having a tough time and starts a disappointed ninth, his worst position of the season.
12.44Ralf Schumacher put in a great lap in qualifying and lines his Toyota up sixth. The team showed well in testing at the circuit a few weeks ago and Schumacher should be able to battle with Kubica to score valuable points for himself and the German-based team. Team-mate Jarno Trulli starts tenth and will be looking to a long first stint to make up track position.
12.46Heikki Kovalainen and Giancarlo Fisichella seem to be rather stuck in the lower top ten at the moment with Renault. While the team has made progress they remain that critical half second or more off the front runners. Starting seventh and eighth, both will be aiming for a solid points scoring result.
12.48Mark Webber and David Coulthard line up tenth and 11th respectively and will be aiming to get the Red Bull Renault squad up into the points. It is tight in the mid-field and gains at the start will be the key if they are to make progress.
12.50William Toyota are facing a tough race with Alex Wurz 13th on the grid and Nico Rosberg starting back in 17th after a mechanical issue in qualifying. A points result is unlikely for the team. It is a similar situation at Honda with Rubens Barrichello starting 14th and Jenson Button 18th.
12.52Of the rest, it will be a battle between the Toro Rosso duo of Scott Speed and Tonio Liuzzi with the Honda runners while at the back, Super Aguri and Spyker will be looking for a reliable trouble free run after mistakes in the recent past.
12.54There is a massive crowd on hand, most of which are cheering on home town hero Lewis Hamilton. It is sunny and warm, perfect conditions for racing.
12.56The drivers are all in their cars on the grid. We do not know yet which drivers are starting the race on the hard and soft tyre. The performance difference is not large at this circuit but Alonso in particular has been going well on the harder option.
12.57Takuma Sato was expected to line up 21st in his Super Aguri Honda, but has opted to start the race from the pit lane.
12.59The engines fire up and the grid is being cleared.
13.00Lewis Hamilton leads the field away from the dummy grid.
13.01They are all busy warming the brakes and trying to retain as much tyre temperature as they can.
13.02McLaren on the harder tyre, Ferrari the soft.
13.02Hamilton lines up on his Pole Position with the rest of the field clotting into grid order. The start will be critical for the race win...
13.03Massa has stalled his Ferrari. The start will be aborted.

Lap 26Speed and Liuzzi have just taken stops for STR.
Lap 26Hamilton is dropping back in third position and doesn't have the pace to stay with Raikkonen it seems.
Lap 27Coulthard makes his first and probably his only stop from eighth position.

Lap 34Button now pits from ninth position.
Lap 35Alonso gets the gap out to over five second now from Raikkonen.

Lap 38After some time in the pit, Davidson is back out after repairs.
Lap 38Kovalainen pits from eighth.
Lap 39Raikkonen now leads but will be pitting soon. He needs some very fast lap now. Hamilton now pits his McLaren, some wing adjustment and hard tyres.
